Apple CEO Tim Cook allegedly defends new SVP of Retail amid criticisms

without comments

As some pundits have questioned the wisdom in Apple’s decision to bring an outsider in as its new Senior Vice President of Retail, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook has reportedly defended the hiring in an email, noting that he talked to many people and Dixons CEO John Browett was “the best by far.”

Browett seen as bad for Apple thanks to Dixons’ poor reputation

without comments

John Browett, CEO of Dixons Retail, whom Apple plans to appoint as its senior vice president of its retail operations in April, may be a poor choice to succeed Apple’s former SVP Ron Johnson if customer service, clean stores, and great products are still priorities for the company. Numerous readers have let Ars know that they feel Dixons’ stores are messy, staffed with clueless salespeople, and sell low-quality goods. Because of this, some consumers worry that the new hire may be a harbinger of bad things to come for Apple’s otherwise highly respected retail stores.

Apple CEO Tim Cook praised Browett for his commitment to customer service in a statement earlier today. “We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his incredible retail experience to Apple,” Cook said. Dixons’ website claims the company has “become a bit customer obsessed lately.”

But that seems to go against the description given to us by several readers about the customer service at Dixons stores—branded Curry’s and PC World in the UK—which they described as “shite” and “the epitome of appalling service.”

Dixons CEO John Browett heads to Apple to lead retail division

without comments

Apple-retail-John-BrowettApple has announced that John Browett, the now former CEO of UK-based Dixons Retail, will join the company as senior vice president of its retail division.

“Our retail stores are all about customer service, and John shares that commitment like no one else we’ve met,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook, in a statement. “We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his incredible retail experience to Apple.”

Browett has been the CEO of Dixons Retail since 2007. Dixons is Europe’s largest specialty electronics retailer, and it operates more than 1,200 stores in 13 countries, including the U.K., Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Greece, and the Czech Republic. So it only makes sense that Apple has picked up Browett to run its retail division, which earned Apple $14 billion in revenues in 2011.

Browett will replace Ron Johnson, who departed last June to become the CEO of department store chain JCPenney. In 11 years at Apple, Johnson helped the company launch over 300 stores worldwide and successfully grew its dominating physical presence. That means Browett will have some big shoes to fill.

Nieuwe directeur voor Apple Retail

without comments

without comments
